Antique "The Memories of Dean Hole" Hardcover

Up for grabs is this book of autobiographical musings by Rev. Dean Hole, which recalls his memories of friendship with famous writers, clerics, artists, sportsmen, etc, of the 1800's and early 1900's. I am not sure if this was written in the late 19th Century or early 20th Century, but this copy is from around the 1920's. I go to great trouble to find the age of undated books (curse them!), but most references referred to it as such. One had it as "c.1920's", while one still had it listed as "undated" but had it in their section for books from the 1920's. One thing I can tell you is that these other sites have it for no less than US$8.99 (AU$14.50), with far more wear than this one will have in another century!

As you can see from the photos below, this gem has survived the decades extremely well. The ornate blue cloth cover has had next to no surface wear, with only some minimal wear on edges and corners, and the gold-leaf detail on the spine still looks stunning.

All 385 pages are intact and and only a few have minor flaws. The only rip is at the top of one page, and was taped long ago (the tape is a bit yellow, and there is a faint imprint of it on the top of the adjacent page). There are no stains, and the only creases are a couple of small ones that actually look like they occurred during printing. While there is some faint spotting inside the covers, the pages are pretty much free, with some at the bottom of 2 pages being the extent of it.

There has been no real yellowing at all, and the pages lie nice and flat. Scribbles are confined to pencil markings next to paragraphs, though this is mostly in the first half of the book. There is also a Dean Hole quote in pencil on the last blank page, and the only marking in pen is a single name on the title page.

Like I said, this book looks great, and is going at a fraction of the others out there on the internet that don't compare in quality! This item is going out cheap, so hurry up and grab it before someone else beats you to it!
