1st Edition HENRY JAMES Novel
1948 "THE AWKWARD AGE" Hardcover
in NEAR-MINT CONDITION !!!

Here's your chance to score this antique hardcover copy of "The Awkward Age" by the great HENRY JAMES (author of "The American" etc). Originally published in 1899, this is the 1948 first edition in "The Novel Library" series from Hamish Hamilton (London). It features a geometric cover, gilded blue cloth spine, a "Note" by Alan Hodge, and the "Author's Preface".

As you can see from the photos below, this beauty is still going strong after more than half a century. The cover has seen only minimal surface wear, and just a couple of bumps along some edges. The only real fraying is just a bit on a couple of corners, but otherwise the edges are unbroken. The spine is still in great shape, with the gold lettering still intact, and no splits along either edge. Most importantly, it is still doing its job of holding the pages and covers together extremely well.

All 480 pages are not only intact and secure, but basically flaw-free. There are no rips, stains, mildew-spots, or scribbles, and the only defacement is a book-club (?) sticker inside the front cover (the rest is clean, as is the inner-back). There has basically been no yellowing in all this time, and the only things that pass as creases are a few tiny dog-eared corners.

You can plainly see this book is in excellent health, and is a must for Henry James fans, antique book collectors, and admirers of classic literature in general.
