ANTIQUE "MARIAN GREY" Hardcover

Up for grabs is this antique copy of Mary J. Holmes' classic story "Marian Grey". I have no idea how old this book is, but it's OLD! I would hazard a guess to say it is well before the 1930's, as it is similar in print and binding to books I have seen from the late 1800's to the first few years of the next century. The pages of this book have seen little wear in all those years, and are in better condition than those of paperbacks from the late 60's that I have!

The cover, bound in red cloth, has seen better days (probably many decades ago, hehe), as you can see from the pics below. However, you can also see it is intact, and that the wear is mostly on the back. Actually, the front is in pretty good condition, with most of the embellishment pressed with gold leaf is still quite visible. That is more faded on the spine, with some obscured by some old paint mark or something. Inside the back cover, it is in really good condition, but a bit of the ornate print inside the front cover has become stuck to the opposite page. Someone has written a price in pen next to the author's name on the next page, but these are fairly minor flaws when one considers the preservation of the paper within. 

The 245 pages - all intact - have hardly yellowed with time, and really are in better condition than most of my paperbacks from the 60's. There are basically no creases beyond tiny dog-eared corners on the first few pages, and stains are non-existent. This book really is in good condition where it counts, especially for its age - whatever that is!
