Here's your chance to secure this antique hardcover copy of the classic novel "The American" by Henry James. Originally published in 1876, this 1st edition from "The Chiltern Library" (John Lehmann & Son, London) was published in 1949 and follows the text of the New York Edition of 1909.As you can see from the photos below, this book is in an excellent condition for its age. The dust-jacket, while obviously a bit torn and tattered, is nonetheless intact, and most importantly has done its job of protecting the hard-cover admirably. The cover of blue cloth has seen little wear accordingly, and the spine has only seen some slight fading either end. Most of the gold detail on it is intact, and of course the spine still does a great job of holding the covers and pages together. All 345 pages are not only intact, but most are in a fantastically preserved state. There are no rips, stains, or creases, and the only spots are faint and occasional ones along the far side edge. There has been hardly any yellowing in the last half-century, and all the pages lie nice and flat with no sign of warping. There are no scribbles within, and the only defacement is a small shop sticker inside the front cover.Like I said, this book is really well preserved, and is a must for admirers of Henry James, collectors of antique books, and lovers of fine, classic literature in general. This item is going out cheap,
so hurry up and grab it before someone else beats you to it!
