FIRST EDITION! A CENTURY Old! In GREAT Condition!

Up for grabs is this antique hardcover copy of "Several Discourses By Way Of Essays In Verse And Prose By Abraham Cowley". Published in 1904 by Methuen & Co (London), this "Little Library" 1st edition features an introduction and notes by Harry Christopher Minchin, and a proper portrait page from a painting by Sir Peter Lely. It features a gilt spine, ornate pressed gold hearts on the covers, a bookmark ribbon, and gold topped pages.

As you can see from the photos below, this book is in excellent condition, with the portrait page in exceptional health. Even the protective tissue is intact and undamaged, except for a bit of yellowing around the edges. The cover is in great condition, with barely any surface or edge wear having occurred in the last 99 years. There is some fading from the spine outwards, but the gold-leaf titling is still quite visible (with the gold hearts on the front basically unaffected). Besides the appearance, the cover is also in great shape, and there is no separation between the spine and pages.

All 230 pages are not only intact, but free of stains, creases, mildew spots, scribbles, and even yellowing really. In fact, even the insides of the covers are totally clean, not including a sticker inside the front. All pages are totally secure, and the gold on top of the pages still looks great. The only flaw is a jagged page edge here and there from ones that had to be manually separated after printing. Other than that, this book is basically flaw-free - even the bookmark ribbon is intact!

This gem is a must for antique book collectors, fans of Abraham Cowley, and admirers of 17th Century poetry and prose in general.
