ANTIQUE "The Tempest" by WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

Up for grabs is this softcover copy of William Shakespeare's play "The Tempest", originally written around 1610. This Oxford and Cambridge Edition is undated, but other plays with similar covers date from the 40's and 50's, though I personally suspect it is older. Besides having the play itself, it has a large literary introduction, and the large appendix includes chapters on Shakespearean grammar, metrical construction, the origin of the plot, and much more. Also included are examination papers of the day.

As you can see from the photos below, this book is doing well for its age, though it has a few flaws. Though the spine has come unglued, this could be rectified with some glue, and I assure you that this does not affect the binding of the pages (and the cover is not off yet anyway). All parts of the cover are secure to one another, and the only real flaws are some grime and fading (there is hardly any edge wear).

All 285 pages are not only intact, but look great, with hardly any yellowing. There are occasional underlinings and margin notes (mostly in pencil, with only a couple in pen), but that is only in the first half of the book (there are also notes in pencil and a signature in pen inside the front cover.) There are no mildew-spots or stains, and the only creases are a few slightly turned corners and one creased corner that has long since flattened.

This book is a must for admirers of Shakespeare, literature students, and antique book collectors alike... and this item is going out cheap, so hurry up and grab it before someone else beats you to it!
