Up for grabs is this first edition hardcover copy of Lilian Haddakin's "The Poetry Of Crabbe". It is of course a biographical study of Rev. George Crabbe, one of the great writers and poets of the late 1700's and early 1800's. A contemporary and friend of other greats like Tennyson, Fitzgerald, and Sir Walter Scott, Crabbe is perhaps best remembered for his realism and depth of portrayal of the human character than for any one work. This book not only looks at his life, but seeks to understand his unique mind and the works created by it.As you can see from the photos below, this book has survived the last half century well, with just a few minor flaws. The cover of oxblood cloth is still sturdy, with surface scuffing and edge wear being fairly minimal. There are a couple of spots of white paint on the back, an "S" in white on the spine, and a library sticker has been taped to the spine; otherwise, the cover is still doing its job admirably. All 180 pages are not only intact, but most are free of flaws. There has hardly been any yellowing, and the pages lie nice and flat. There are no rips or creases, and the only scribble I could see was a line next to a paragraph. Of course, there are a couple more inside the covers, with library stamps and stickers (and card), but the pages within have no other defacements, except for library stamps at the bottom of some pages. Spotting is minimal and confined to the insides of the covers, and there are no stains to speak of.This item is a must for book collectors and
admirers of great literature and poetry... and
it's going out cheap,
so hurry up and grab it before someone else beats you to it!
