Pagan's Mind

Pagan's Mind - Awe-inspiring Progressive Metal from Norway

Once in a while there comes along a band that totally knocks your socks off... and the latest to do this to me is Norway's Pagan's Mind.

If you like Melodic/Progressive Metal, but are sick of the usual abundance of ballads, and are yearning for something technically brilliant but with lots of oomph and presence, this band will be right up your alley! And if you're into alien civilisations, you'll love these guys!

Pagan's Mind was formed in 2000 by Nils K. Rue (vocals), Stian Kristoffersen (drums), and Thorstein "Thomas" Aaby (guitar), with Steinar Krokmo (bass) and Jorn Viggo Lofstad (guitar) joining shortly afterwards. By November the same year, they had already released their debut album "Infinity Divine" (with keyboardist Ronny Tegner still being listed as an additional musician). Their unique blend of Power and Prog, with it's punchy riffs yet cool melodic vibes, soon gained them a fan-base, and they set to work on their next masterpiece. While their debut had received rave reviews world-wide, the best was yet to come!

The brilliant "Celestial Entrance" was recorded between January and March 2002, and was mixed and produced by the man himself, Fredrik Nordström. As you would expect, the production is second to none, but that alone won't sell an album. Luckily, Pagan's Mind have a lot going for them, and this album is an utter joy to listen to. Excellent guitar work, with plenty of chunky riffs... excellent drumming, with plenty of double-kick... fantastic keyboard solos... great bass work you can actually hear... intelligent lyrics with mystic and extraterrestrial themes... and the amazing vocal range and technique of Nils - all of these combined make Pagan's Mind a force to be reckoned with! And, at least in my humble opinion, "Celestial Entrance" is definitely one of the great Metal albums of the early 21st Century.
